Once upon a time I was buying a lot of pre-packaged taco seasoning because I didn't know any other way. Years ago an ex-coworker turned me onto one of my favorite recipes. It's a recipe for clean Taco Soup. Within said recipe it says 1 pkg taco seasoning (make your own). I was like what the hell?! The second page of the recipe is Make Your Own Taco Seasoning Mix! It is complete with a super fun and cheesy picture of a happy dancing taco! My favorite part! lol!
Anyway, I haven't used packaged taco seasoning since...
I used to buy any old seasonings from our local grocery stores, but recently I make every attempt to get any/all of my ingredients online from Mountain Rose Herbs (https://www.mountainroseherbs.com/). We absolutely love their passion for quality products and compassion for the environment! Mountain Rose Herbs is a certified organic processor through Oregon Tilth Certified Organic (OTCO) (https://tilth.org/), which is fully accredited with the USDA National Organic Program. The only downside is their shipping rates and times, which is a common frustration for their online users. My solution is to always have a running list of Saved Items in my online cart. I add stuff that I want in the future, stuff that I will need soon or just general spices and seasonings that we use ALL the time. Then I wait for their occasional discount code offering and BAM 👊! I stock up a few times a year and it is glorious. lol! 👍
Blah, blah, blah...here is the recipe.
Ingredients for 1lb of quality meat:
-1 TBSP Chili Powder (or more? or less? Whatever happens, happens)
-1 1/2 TSP Cumin
-1 1/2 TSP Paprika
-1 TSP Oregano
-1 TSP Salt (I use Redmond Trading Company Real Salt b/c I really like it)
-1/2 TSP Garlic Powder
-1/2 TSP Onion Powder
-1/4 TSP Cayenne Pepper (I don't measure this...I sprinkle it in based upon my mood. Fun!) 😄
-1 TSP Lawry's Seasoned Salt (Make your own! *Recipe in Separate Post*) This is my own addition to the recipe b/c I feel like it helps enhance and bring out all the other flavors nicely. To me, the seasoning mix seems a bit bland w/o it.
Directions:
1. Season your meat as you usually would, but now in a healthier way. 💖
2. Live, Laugh, Love!
